About Pull Him Out Online
The pull-the-pin puzzle is probably the most-advertised game mechanic of the last decade, and for a long stretch it was also the most dishonest. Millions of people met it in a Facebook ad — a stick figure over lava, three pins, a caption reading "only 5% can solve this" — installed the game, and found a match-three farm. Pull Him Out Online is the opposite bargain: the puzzle in the picture is the entire game, and there is nothing else behind it.
The setup is a treasure hunter in a safari hat, somewhere he should not be: a jungle floor, a mine shaft, the inside of a pyramid, a flooded chamber. Between him and the loot sit golden pins holding back everything that could kill him. You tap one pin at a time and watch physics do the rest. Water drains, rocks fall, a crate slides down a rail, a snake drops into a pit. Get the sequence right and he walks out with the chest; get it wrong and he is under the rocks with the chest still where it was.
It is a small game, published by Codo Studio and listed on GameMonetize on 28 September 2020. There are more than a hundred levels according to the walkthrough written for it, and they unlock strictly one after another — no grid, no skipping ahead. Every level cleared pays around 50 coins. On Lagged, which hosts a copy, it sits at a 90% like ratio.
One honest note about the advertising. GameMonetize plays a roughly thirty-second pre-roll before the title screen — when we loaded it, the ad was a playable Hero Wars puzzle, a joke the game does not know it is making — and the SKIP button sits hard against the bottom-right corner. Wait for the countdown rather than aiming for it, or you will click the advertiser.
The pull-the-pin puzzle in the ad was often not in the game
This mechanic did not become famous because people played it. It became famous because they were shown it, over and over, in ads for games that did not contain it — and in October 2020 a regulator said so in writing.
The UK's Advertising Standards Authority upheld complaints against Playrix over Facebook ads for Homescapes and Gardenscapes. The ads showed exactly the puzzle you are playing here: a character in danger, pins to be pulled in sequence, a taunt along the lines of "only 5% can solve this". Both games are match-three puzzlers about renovating a house and a garden.
Playrix's defence was that the mini-games were genuinely in the products. The ASA looked at how many and how deep. In Homescapes there were roughly ten across the whole game, appearing once every ten to twenty levels and not before level 20 — and by Playrix's own figures, 45% of players ever reach level 20 and 18% reach level 100. The ruling was that the ads were "not representative of the games they were purported to feature", because a player would have to "play a significant amount of content which was of a different style" to find what they had been sold. The disclaimer "Not all images represent actual gameplay" did not save them.
The afterlife of that ruling is the genre you are now looking at. A mechanic that tested brilliantly in advertising but barely existed in the advertised games turned out to be a good game on its own, and dozens of studios built it properly. Pull Him Out Online is one of them: no farm, no house to renovate, no fifty levels of a different genre between you and the pins.
Why the obvious pin is the wrong pin
Every one of these levels is built around a single trap, and it is a psychological one. The pin nearest the treasure is the pin you want to pull, because it is the pin that does the thing you came for. It is also, most of the time, the pin that kills the hunter.
The fix is a heuristic old enough to have been written down in 1945, in George Pólya's How to Solve It — the book that gave problem-solving its four-step vocabulary of understand, plan, execute, review, and catalogued the strategies that fit inside it. One of them is working backwards: instead of starting from where you are and looking for a promising move, start at the goal and ask what state the world must be in one step earlier.
Applied to a pin puzzle, that becomes one question. At the exact moment the treasure falls, what has to already be true? The channel below it has to be cold, or dry, or plugged, or empty of things with teeth. That answer names the pin you pull first — usually one at the far edge of the screen, doing something that looks unrelated to the treasure. Do it the other way round and you get the classic failure: you pull the obvious pin, the gold drops, and only then discover the same slab was holding back the lava.
Pull Him Out Online vs Hero Rescue Puzzle
We have another pull-the-pin game in the catalogue, and the two are less interchangeable than the genre label suggests. Hero Rescue Puzzle is the tighter, more abstract one: a knight at the bottom of a stone tower, chambers of lava and water above him, goblins, and a level grid you can jump around freely.
| Pull Him Out Online | Hero Rescue Puzzle | |
|---|---|---|
| Input | Tap a pin once | Drag the pin out of its slot |
| Character and setting | A treasure hunter through jungle, mines, pyramids, ruins and underwater rooms | A knight in a single stone tower |
| Hazards | Lava, boiling water, spikes, gas, electric plates, falling rock, plus animals and undead | Lava, water and goblins |
| Extra layer | Keys, gems and pearls that open doors — some levels are two puzzles in one | None; one chamber, one solution |
| Level access | Sequential unlock, level 1 only at the start | Level grid, replay anything cleared |
| Coins per win | About 50 | About 10 |
The practical difference is pacing. Hero Rescue Puzzle is for ten identical-length puzzles in a row. This one is the longer campaign: a new object every handful of levels, and key-and-door stages that give it a second gear the tower game never shifts into.
Playing Pull Him Out Online unblocked
There is no installer, no plugin, no login and no account. The whole thing is one HTML5 page, which is why it turns up on school "unblocked games" lists — a browser and a mouse are the full requirement. It runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and starts inside this page when you press play above. One caveat specific to this build: GameMonetize's feed does not flag it as mobile-ready, even though the play area is drawn in portrait and the tutorial tells you to tap. On a laptop or a school Chromebook it behaves; on a phone it may not scale to the screen.
More pull-the-pin puzzles
Hero Rescue Puzzle is the closest neighbour and Pull the Pin Rescue a third take on the same idea. Hero Rescue swaps the puzzle for action with the same rescue framing, and Save the Kitten applies the read-before-you-act rule to a smaller emergency. For a treasure hunter who solves his problems rather differently, there is Hunter Assassin. The rest live in the puzzle category.
How to play Pull Him Out Online
- Find the ending first. Locate the treasure, then the hunter, then trace the space between them. Everything else on screen is either an obstacle in that corridor or a tool for clearing it.
- Tap, do not drag. A single click pulls a pin all the way out. That is the habit to unlearn if you have come from other pull-the-pin games, where pins slide along a slot.
- Deal with the hazard before you release the prize. Water puts out fire, rock blocks lava, a falling boulder is a lid. The pin that frees the treasure should almost always be the last one you touch.
- Collect the key, then open the door. Some levels are two puzzles stacked: the first sequence puts a key, a gem or a pearl in the hunter's hands, the second uses it. If a door will not open, you missed a pickup.
- Restart without guilt. There is no timer and no life system. A level sits frozen until you touch something, so thinking is free and so is failing.
Tips worth knowing before level 10:
- The monsters are ammunition. Zombies, wild pigs, dogs and snakes are usually not obstacles to avoid but weights to drop — onto spikes, into lava, on top of something else. If a creature has a pin of its own, ask what is directly below it.
- Two pins that look identical are not. When a pair holds the same slab, pulling the higher one tips the slab the way you want; pulling the lower one drops it flat.
- Gas and electric plates do not obey gravity. Lava and water flow downhill and can be predicted. Electrified boards and poison gas fill a space, so the fix is not to divert them — it is to keep the hunter out.
- Sequential unlocking cuts both ways. You cannot skip a level you are stuck on, but the game never asks for something it has not taught you. If a stage looks unsolvable, the tool is on screen and you have not spotted it.
Controls
| Left click / tap on a pin | Pulls that pin straight out — whatever it was holding falls, flows or wakes up. The game's own tutorial says "TAP THE PIN TO UNLOCK" |
|---|---|
| Mouse | The only input. There are no keyboard controls at all, which is why the listing simply says "Use Mouse to Play" |
| No timer | Nothing moves until you touch a pin, so you can stare at a level for as long as you like before committing |

FAQ
How do you play Pull Him Out Online?
You click or tap the golden pins holding the level together, one at a time, in the order that clears a safe route for the treasure hunter. Pulling a pin releases whatever it was holding — rock, water, lava, a crate, a sleeping monster. The level is won when the hunter has the treasure and is still alive.
How many levels does Pull Him Out Online have?
The published walkthrough for the game lists more than 100 levels and works through the first 43 individually. They unlock one at a time in a fixed order, so you cannot jump ahead to a later stage the way you can in games with a level grid.
Who made Pull Him Out Online?
Codo Studio, a developer that publishes through GameMonetize, where the game was listed on 28 September 2020. The studio has six games on that platform and does not have a public website of its own, so there is no developer page to link to.
Is this the same game as the Pull Him Out app by Lion Studios?
No. Lion Studios' Pull Him Out is a mobile app released in June 2020 with more than 50 million installs on Google Play, and it is a scenario puzzler in the style of their earlier Save the Girl. This browser game shares the name but is a classic pull-the-pin physics puzzle by a different studio.
What is the difference between Pull Him Out Online and Hero Rescue Puzzle?
Both are pull-the-pin puzzles, but the input differs — here you tap a pin once, in Hero Rescue Puzzle you drag it out of its slot. This game follows a treasure hunter through jungles, mines and pyramids with keys, doors and a wider cast of animals and monsters, and it unlocks levels strictly in sequence rather than offering a level grid.
Why did the treasure hunter die when I pulled the pin?
Almost always because of order, not aim. A pin that looks like it frees the treasure usually also opens a channel for lava, drops a rock or wakes something up. Work backwards from the treasure instead — decide what has to already be true at the moment the loot falls, and pull the pin that makes that true first.
Were the pull-the-pin puzzles in those mobile ads actually in the games?
Often not. In October 2020 the UK Advertising Standards Authority banned Facebook ads for Playrix's Homescapes and Gardenscapes that showed pin-pulling puzzles, ruling they were "not representative of the games they were purported to feature" — both are match-three games with only around ten such mini-games hidden in them.
Does Pull Him Out Online work on a phone?
The play area is drawn in portrait and the tutorial says "tap", but GameMonetize's own feed does not flag this build as mobile-ready, so we list it as a desktop and Chromebook game. On a phone it may load without scaling properly; on a laptop it works with the mouse alone.
