Merging. Two small monsters make one bigger monster, and the bigger one is worth more. This is the mechanic that took over casual games in the last few years and it is the most represented here. It works because the reward is always one move away.
Running. A monster chases you and the game is the distance. These are the ones with a thumbnail designed to look slightly frightening and a game that is not.
