Superhero Games
Almost every one of these is secretly a city simulator. Read the titles and count the ones with «city» in them.

How this list is put together
That is the finding. A browser superhero game is almost never about a hero and almost always about a city: a grid of blocks with a physics rope attached to it, and the whole design is the pleasure of crossing that grid without touching the ground. The cape is the excuse. The city is the game.
It shows up in the numbers. The median superhero game here downloads 9.1 MB against 7.8 MB for the catalogue, and only twelve of the hundred and eight are marked as working on touch — the lowest proportion of any collection we have measured. Both figures point the same way. You cannot build an open city in two megabytes and you cannot steer one with a thumb.
The three kinds, and only one of them is common
City traversal, which is most of this page. A rope or a glide or a very long jump, a map of towers, and missions that mainly exist to give you a reason to go from one roof to another. Whether the missions are any good varies enormously; the swinging is usually fine, because it is the thing the developer actually cared about.
Hero fighting, which is a fighting game with costumes. These are the lightest and the ones most likely to have two-player-on-one-keyboard.
Rescue puzzles, where the power is the mechanic rather than the theme: pull the right pin, reach the person, do not drop the car. These are the ones small children can play, and they are the smallest group.
The names are not here, on purpose
This is the densest patch of borrowed trademarks in the whole catalogue. The superhero shelf at any browser-games site is full of games named after characters owned by two American publishers, made by studios that never asked, and the names are there because the names are what people search for.
We have kept them off this page. What is left is the genre without the branding — and the interesting thing is how little is missing. A rope, a skyline, a person who can fall a long way without consequences: none of that belongs to anybody, and the games built on it are the same games with different capes.
Before you start the download
Several games on this page are over 40 MB, which is the heaviest tenth of everything we host. We measured each one by downloading it, and every card shows the figure, because a 3D city on a school or hotel connection is a wait you should agree to in advance rather than discover.
If you want the light end of the same shelf, the fighting games are a fraction of the size, and stickman games are the genre's cheap, fast cousin — the same punches with none of the polygons.

Are the famous superheroes here?
No, and that is deliberate. The names you know belong to two companies, and a browser game using one of them is using it without permission. The heroes on this page are original, unnamed or generic — a rope, a cape, a city — which is what the genre actually consists of once you remove the branding.
What do you do in a browser superhero game?
Cross a city. That is the honest answer for most of them: you swing, glide or leap between buildings, with missions layered on top. The rest are fighting games with capes, and a few are rescue puzzles where the power is the mechanic.
Do they work on a phone?
Twelve of the hundred and eight, and we label which. This is the least mobile collection we have measured, because an open 3D city needs a keyboard, a mouse and a graphics card.
How big are they?
A median of 9.1 MB against 7.8 for the catalogue, and the tail is extreme — several on this page are past 40 MB. A city is expensive to download.
Are they suitable for children?
Some are. The rescue and cartoon ones yes; the city sandboxes are power fantasies with fist fights in them. We keep horror and blood off this page, and the collection for younger children is checked game by game.
